ObjectBaseX provides a wide range of important features, including:
- Easy to install: make sure you have an up-to-date browser (for example,
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 or later. You will also
require Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 or later.
- Ease of use: ObjectBaseX is very easy to use. Since ObjectBaseX
is an Internet application, much of the user interface works just like web sites you
visit every day.
- Easy to learn: The easiest way to learn to use ObjectBaseX is to
dive right in--open the training database, add documents, use indexes, and explore. We'll
be adding substantially more materials for training in the next few months--to help
you learn more about ObjectBaseX and take advantage of its features.
- Easy to maintain: If you have used any commercial software product you have
lived through The Upgrade. Sometimes it can be reasonably painless--you just have
to sit through ten minutes of blinking lights and odd noises from your computer when
you're trying to retrieve your meeting notes. Other times a software upgrade can wreak
havoc with your computer--breaking other programs. You'll never go through any of
that with ObjectBaseX--because the software runs on the ObjectBase servers.
(Sure--we see the blinking lights and hear the odd noises, but you don't have
to.) Updates, bug fixes, security patches, and new features are all handled at the
server--the only thing you'll notice is a slightly different version number when
you connect.
- Easy to access: You can get to your data in ObjectBaseX from almost
anywhere--just connect to the Internet, and point your browser to ObjectBaseX.
You don't have to find a computer with a special device attached, or worry about
finding a computer with a current seat license: there are no seat licenses for
ObjectBaseX. (We should point out, however, that ObjectBaseX does include
a security feature that lets a company administrator restrict access to a database by IP address. So
while you can connect to ObjectBaseX from practically anywhere on the face
of the earth--even Pike County, Ohio--you may be restricted from getting to your data.
